Baron Batch Speaks to Campers
Texas Tech Red Raiders senior running back Baron Batch spoke to campers in July at Camp Extreme in Floydada. Batch is an active member in Operation Hope’s A.C.T.S. - Athletics for Christ Teaching and Services - a bible study for college students.
Batch gave his testimony of how he was led to Christ. He explained how football was his life....
His freshmen year on a routine play in practice, Batch broke his ankle. He endured eight surgeries and the potential of never playing again. While in the hospital, two teammates who were active in A.C.T.S., visited Batch and spoke to Him about God. These teammates are now NFL’s Keyunta Dawson of the Indianapolis Colts and Manny Ramirez of the Detroit Lions. After Batch gave His life to Christ, he prayed God would grant him his deepest passion. He promised God football would no longer be about him—Batch would give his talent back to God. After one year of surgeries and one year on the practice team Batch returned in 2008.
Batch has kept his promise. He explained that after every touchdown he raises his hand to God to give all the credit back to Him. When asked how many touchdowns he has, Batch shyly grinned and said, “I really don’t know.”
During Q & A, Batch modestly answered many football related questions. Eventually Batch requested that the children ask questions about Jesus.
Campers lined up for Batch’s autograph...
